I have always been interested in repurposing materials to make something new and useful. My research to find a structure that can be recycled to build a home has lead me to shipping containers. They are strong enough to withstand rough seas, brutal weather, heavy loads and they are expected to do this for years.
The driving factor to find an alternative to traditional building materials is to reduce costs. Something like a cottage is not meant to be anything more than a strong shelter or hideaway that can hold up to some rough play, and that is exactly what you get with a shipping container home. Containers are durable and quite affordable, but customizing takes some hard work and a little cash. Part of my interest is the project itself – the journey of taking a project from start to finish with full creative discretion.
